Over 230,000 Canadians are calling for Elon Musk’s citizenship to be revoked, accusing him of trying to undermine the country’s sovereignty.

In response to the petition, the billionaire lashed out, mocking Canada by saying, “Canada is not a real country” in a post on X.

The petition, launched by Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus, a vocal critic of Musk, has garnered over 236,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning. It claims that Musk has used his wealth and influence to interfere in Canadian elections and is involved in efforts to weaken the nation’s sovereignty.

The petition demands that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revoke Musk’s Canadian citizenship and passport immediately.

Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, is from Saskatchewan, and the billionaire lived in Canada for three years starting in 1989. However, legal experts say the petition is unlikely to succeed, as Canadian citizenship can only be revoked in cases of fraud or misrepresentation on immigration applications, according to CTV.

The petition has gained attention amid ongoing tensions between Canada and the U.S. Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested Canada should become the 51st state, while trade tariffs between the two nations are expected soon. The rivalry has even spilled into sports, with heated moments in a recent hockey match between the U.S. and Canada.

Musk, who has criticized Trudeau in the past, also mocked the Canadian prime minister, referring to him as “the governor of Canada” and an “insufferable tool.”

At the same time, Musk faces criticism within the U.S. government for his recent demands on federal workers.
