Elon Musk is warning that Donald Trump’s new megabill could open the door to serious abuses of power—just after Trump floated the idea of deporting him.
“This is nominally aimed at removal of illegal immigrants, but obviously also enables many other abuses of power by the President,” Musk posted Tuesday on his social media platform X.
He was reacting to Trump’s so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which would remove funding for enforcing federal contempt of court orders. Musk called that the real danger.
“Removal of funding for enforcement of federal contempt of court orders is the actual crux of this spending bill,” Musk wrote.
He ran a poll asking users if this should be allowed. Nearly two-thirds—63.4%—said no. Just over a third—36.4%—said yes.
One user replied, “It can be very dangerous in future.” Musk agreed, replying: “Very.”
The warning came soon after Trump told reporters he would “look at” the idea of deporting Musk.
