Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who led cost-cutting efforts at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spoke out against a huge Republican spending bill that recently passed the House.

In a preview of an interview set to air on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Musk said he was “disappointed” by the bill because it increases the budget deficit.

“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit… and it undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said.

The bill, called the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” after President Trump’s slogan, sailed through the House after last-minute changes that won over GOP lawmakers. It now moves on to the Senate.

This legislation extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and boosts funding for border security, deportations, and national defense. It also tightens Medicaid work requirements, which could cause millions of low-income people to lose their health coverage. On top of that, it cuts back on green energy tax breaks and raises the debt limit by $4 trillion.

Musk weighed in on the bill’s name, saying, “I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful. I don’t know if it could be both. My personal opinion.”

After months spent trimming government spending and shrinking the federal workforce, Musk has stepped back from his role in the Trump administration — but his criticism shows he remains concerned about rising deficits.
