During Wednesday’s edition of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski couldn’t stop laughing at what she called one of the weirdest pre-hearing moves she’d ever heard — Robert F. Kennedy Jr. swimming in a sewage-polluted creek.

Before the show got into Kennedy’s testimony before Congress, Brzezinski brought up his past stunt: diving into Rock Creek in Washington, D.C., a waterway known for being filled with raw sewage and waste.

Brzezinski immediately burst into laughter. Joe Scarborough cut in, barely holding it together himself. “Anybody asking about swimming in Rock Creek and floating in piles of…” he said, trailing off as the panel laughed.

“He was completely submerged,” Brzezinski added, which triggered even more laughter from co-hosts Jonathan Lemire and Willie Geist.

“He was just diving in it,” she said through fits of laughter.

“In his jeans,” Geist chimed in.

Brzezinski, still laughing, replied: “The problem with doing it in jeans is that it all sticks to you for quite some time.”

Scarborough tried to pivot back to the actual hearing, where the secretary of Health and Human Services delivered confusing and controversial responses on vaccines — but when the camera cut back to Brzezinski, she was still laughing.

The panel eventually moved on, but not before cementing the moment as one of the most bizarre lead-ins to a congressional hearing in recent memory — and one of the most absurd stunts by a cabinet member trying to be taken seriously.
