In an open letter released Tuesday, over 400 economists and former U.S. policymakers have thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, directly opposing former President Donald Trump’s economic agenda.

The letter, signed by numerous economics professors and former White House officials comes just before Harris’s anticipated economic speech in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

“The choice in this election is clear,” the letter read. “between failed trickle-down policies that benefit the few and those that create opportunity for all,” the signees wrote

“It is a choice between inequity, economic injustice, and uncertainty with Donald Trump or prosperity, opportunity, and stability with Kamala Harris, a choice between the past and the future,” they continued. “With Kamala Harris in the White House, workers, families, and businesses can be confident that they have a president who will work relentlessly to build a strong, pro-growth economy for all Americans.”

The letter underscores a significant consensus among economists regarding the risks associated with Trump’s policies, which include aggressive tariffs and substantial corporate tax cuts.

Notable signers include Harvard economist Jason Furman, who chaired the Council of Economic Advisers under Obama; Evercore founder Roger Altman, former deputy treasury secretary under Clinton; Penny Pritzker, former commerce secretary under Obama; former Federal Reserve vice chair Alan Blinder; Sean O’Keefe, who worked under President George W. Bush, and former staff members from regulatory agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Harris is expected to reference this broad support in an upcoming speech focused on economic policy, where she plans to introduce new proposals. Although some economists, including Furman, have previously expressed concerns about specific Harris initiatives—such as her plan to ban price gouging—he emphasizes a shared opposition to Trump’s economic strategies.
