Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sparked the ire of the internet on Monday after telling Americans that there will be a “peaceful transition of power” after the November election while enabling Donald Trump, who is refusing to commit to peacefully leave the White House if he loses to Joe Biden.

“The winner of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th. There will be an orderly transition just as there has been every four years since 1792,” McConnell tweeted.

McConnell’s comments come 24 hours after Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transition of power, demanding that ballots be “thrown out” and saying that “there will not be a transition, but a continuation” of his presidency.

Twitter users were quick to respond with many pointing out McConnell’s lack of credibility.
