Michael Fanone, a former DC Metro police officer who suffered a heart attack after being assaulted by Trump supporters during the January 6 Capitol riot, is speaking out against President Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers for blocking the installation of a plaque meant to honor the officers who fought that day.
The plaque, approved by Congress in 2022, was meant to be displayed in the Capitol to recognize the bravery of law enforcement officers who faced violent attacks from rioters. However, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and other Republicans have stalled the installation.
On The Jim Acosta Show, Fanone didn’t hold back in expressing his anger toward those responsible for delaying the plaque’s placement. He started by calling out the Republican Party for not following the law.
“When it comes to the plaque, there’s been a lot of talk about this plaque, and I think a lot of officers probably want to see it put up in the Capitol like the law says,” Fanone said. “But I understand that the Republican Party has a real problem following the law. They’re led by a convicted felon who incited an insurrection against this country.”
Fanone then turned his attention to Speaker Mike Johnson, offering a blunt suggestion for where the plaque should go.
“I have a message for Mike Johnson as to where they should put the plaque. I think it would be perfect if it was shoved up his ass,” Fanone added.
Acosta jokingly responded, “Well, you know… I don’t know if it’ll fit up there. It seems pretty tight, but yeah…”
Fanone didn’t back down, emphasizing that the plaque deserved to be displayed properly.
“It ought to be hung somewhere, but the fact that it’s sitting in a closet or storage room is just sick. That’s a bold betrayal of law enforcement,” he said.
Fanone also made it clear that he and his fellow officers are tired of being ignored.
“The cops I talk to, the ones who were with me in the Lower West Tunnel, they’re tired. They fought for hours against a brutal attack by Trump supporters. They’re sick of hearing about it. They know how this country feels about them. They know how Republican lawmakers feel about them. They’re not begging for any reward. They’re not going to beg Mike Johnson to put this plaque up. So, telling him to shove it up his ass? That’s coming from a whole lot of cops who fought their asses off on January 6th,” he said.
Acosta responded, “Honestly, he needs to pull whatever stick is up his ass about this and do the right thing.”
Fanone didn’t hold back when expressing the motives behind the GOP’s actions.
“They’re living in fear, but also, I think Mike Johnson’s just a petty bitch. And I think most Republican leaders are petty bitches. Just like their dear leader, Donald Trump.”
For Fanone, the issue isn’t just about a plaque. It’s about Republicans using the situation to make a political statement against Democrats.
Acosta added, “They’re trolling.”
