During an interview published Thursday on Fox News, former first lady Melania Trump suggested that she was unaware that her husband’s supporters were storming the US Capitol on jan 6, and said she she did not speak out against the violence because she was too busy “fulfilling official duties on behalf of our nation.”
Mrs. Trump told the network that if she had been informed of the events taking place at the Capitol during the day, she ‘would have immediately denounced the violence.'”
“As with all First Ladies who preceded me, it was my obligation to record the contents of the White House’s historic rooms, including taking archival photographs of all the renovations,” Trump said. “Several months in advance, I organized a qualified team of photographers, archivists, and designers to work with me in the White House to ensure perfect execution.”
She added: “As required, we scheduled January 6, 2021, to complete the work on behalf of our Nation.”
Of course, the U.S. constitution does not include a single duty that the president’s spouse is expected to complete.
Last month, Mrs. Trump’s chief of staff on Jan. 6, Stephanie Grisham, revealed to CNN that she asked Melania Trump if she wanted to release a statement condemning the violence. Mrs. Trump simply replied “no.”
Grisham quit her job in response.
