A conservative host on Newsmax is warning Republicans that dragging First Lady Jill Biden into their investigation of President Joe Biden could blow up in their faces—by forcing Melania Trump to testify, too.
On Thursday, Newsmax host Marc Lotter raised serious concerns during an interview with Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) about the GOP’s plan to question Jill Biden over her husband’s fitness for office.
“So, you know, I’ve seen some reporting that they may reach out or subpoena or invite Dr. Jill Biden, the former first lady, to come in,” he said. “Do you worry that if you do that, though, you’ve crossed kind of a Rubicon, a threshold there, so then Melania is going to have to come in and testify, and all future first ladies or first spouses could be forced to come in and testify against their president’s significant other?”
Biggs brushed off the warning, saying Democrats had already set the standard.
“That is a tough issue, but don’t forget that the Democrats and the previous DOJ spent hours deposing members of the Donald Trump family,” he said. “So they’ve already kind of crossed that Rubicon.”
Still, Biggs admitted it would be better not to bring Jill Biden in—unless the GOP feels boxed in. “But if we can get this without bringing Dr. Jill in, then fine,” he said. “But if they’re gonna play this game where they’re gonna hide the ball because everybody’s coordinating this cover-up, then we’re gonna have to go to the very source there and bring Dr. Jill in.”
But Lotter’s warning is clear: if Republicans pull Jill Biden into the spotlight, they could be setting the stage for Democrats to haul in Melania Trump the moment they regain control of the House.
