Megyn Kelly blasted MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow for criticizing MSNBC’s decision to cut non-white hosts. Kelly ripped into Maddow and the network’s bosses for letting her get away with it.
“If one of my employees ever did this to me, I would fire them so fast,” she said on The Megyn Kelly Show. “Are you actually going to let an employee—that’s what she is, Rachel Maddow—talk about you, your company, and your decision-making this way?”
Kelly’s tirade came after Maddow used her show Monday to speak out against the network’s recent shakeup. Maddow called out the firing of Joy Reid and other non-white hosts, saying, “I will tell you it is also unnerving to see that on a network where we’ve got two—count them, two—non-white hosts in primetime, both of our non-white hosts in primetime are losing their shows, as is Katie Phang on the weekend. And that feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them. That feels indefensible, and I do not defend it.”
Kelly wasn’t having it. She said, “She took her boss’s faces and rubbed them in s–t last night.” She went on to question whether NBC exec Mark Lazarus had the “testicular fortitude to stand up for yourself as a professional and executive.” Kelly suggested NBC should fire Maddow, saying, “You’re fired for insubordination and for disparaging the network publicly in front of our four viewers.”
Of course, Kelly’s criticism of Maddow might seem a little ironic, considering NBC fired her in 2018 after she made controversial comments defending blackface on Halloween. Her show Megyn Kelly Today was already struggling in the ratings, and the network canceled it shortly after her remarks.
But now, Kelly’s all about backing NBC, at least when it comes to Maddow. Kelly argued that Maddow “should be fired” and added, “The only reason MSNBC won’t fire her… I don’t say the ‘P’ word, but they are a bunch of ‘P’s.”
Kelly said Maddow “oozes sanctimony and self-righteousness” and that what she did on air was “absolutely disrespectful and it was insubordinate.” To Kelly, Maddow’s actions are just another example of her never passing up a chance to be “the center of attention.”
