White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked on Thursday to explain why Donald Trump was falling so far behind in the polls. Instead of answering, McEnany diverted the question and claimed that Trump has done a “historic” job with his coronavirus response.
During Thursday’s press briefing, one reporter brought to attention the latest polls which show Trump losing by double digits to former Vice President Joe Biden.
The same polls also say that majorities disapprove of Trump’s handling of COVID-19 and race relations, the reporter pointed out.
“That would be a question for the campaign,” McEnany answered. “But we believe this president has great approval in this country. His historic COVID response speaks for itself, with delivering on ventilators and testing leading the world.”
