Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is facing a furious backlash after he announced on Wednesday that he opposes a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection.
“I’ve made the decision to oppose the House Democrats’ slanted and unbalanced proposal for another commission to study the events of January the 6th,” the Senate Minority Leader said as he joined his counterpart in the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who also announced that he would not back legislation to establish a panel to study the riot and its origins.
In his opposition, McConnell complained that the commission was too focused on the deadly events at the U.S. Capitol instead of unrelated political violence.
His announcement set off a wave of anger and frustration.
Of course he will. He knows Repubs tried to overthrow the duly elected POTUS. Sedition is treason.

If a mob of Muslims attacked the Capitol, we would have already bombed an Arab country that had nothing to do with it.

Just a practical point. With McConnell and McCarthy both opposed to the commission – what is the point of doing the commission in its proposed form? I mean McConnell/McCarthy will name the gop members and they will just sabotage the commission from within? https://t.co/xJu6QERBkO

To be fair, if I had played a significant role in instigating an unprecedented and violent attack on the US Government / democracy, I wouldn’t want anyone investigating it either. https://t.co/TexiVnp1im

Why would that be – only one explanation –
Republican leadership in Congress know an investigation will expose many Congressional Republicans as complicit in the 1/6 Insurrection –
Any Democrat who does not act to stop McConnell's obstruction is also complicit.

Hells bells, why do you need a commission anyway? We all saw what happened. It is slanted alright. It is obvious what happened on that day. There is zero need to analyze it. Trump told them to storm the capital and they did it. It doesn't take a commission to figure this out.

The bipartisan deal the House came up with was far more lenient to the party that inspired the insurrection than was deserved and now the GOP isn't even backing that. Just start separate investigations in the House and Senate w/o GOP support.

McConnell gutted Obama’s warning to the public about RUS threat in ‘16; *crashed the pillars of democracy*; gave Putin 4 years to shoot poison into the nation’s veins, blocked DT removal in Feb., blocked elex security; gave DT cover for contesting results—*fomenting insurrection.
