Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday delivered a pointed speech, rejecting President Donald Trump and his allies’ effort to overturn the election results, saying such an illegal move would “damage the republic forever.”
“We cannot simply declare ourselves a national board of elections on steroids. The voters, the courts and the states have all spoken…If we overrule them it will damage our Republic forever.”
As he rejected Ted Cruz objection to Arizona’s electoral results, Mcconnell said that his vote today would be the “most important he ever cast.”
“This will be the most important vote I’ve ever cast. President Trump claims the election was stolen. The assertions range from specific local allegations to constitutional arguments to sweeping conspiracy theories,” he said.
