Senator Mitch McConnell took a tumble in the Capitol on Thursday after a pointed question about ICE.
The 83-year-old Republican senator collapsed in the Russell Senate Office Building basement moments after a reporter asked, “Do you support ICE taking working people off the streets and kidnapping them?”
It was an unusually blunt moment on Capitol Hill—one that quickly turned surreal.
McConnell, known for brushing off tough questions with the cold efficiency of a career politician, didn’t get a chance to answer. Instead, he stumbled and hit the ground.
He was helped up shortly after and gave a small wave to the cameras, signaling he was okay.
No medical attention was visibly called for, and McConnell didn’t offer any remarks after the fall. Staffers nearby looked startled but composed.
There’s no official statement yet from McConnell’s office about the fall or his position on the issue raised.
