Former staffers for Matt Gaetz (R-Fla) are reportedly removing all mention of the embattled GOP congressman from their resumes amid two ongoing investigations into sexual misconduct, a report by Business Insider revealed Thursday.
Gaetz, one of former President Donald Trump’s most fervent defenders, is currently the focus of a federal investigation into allegations of sexual trafficking, sexual contact with a minor, as well and an ethics committee investigation for alleged sexual misconduct in Congress.
Additionally, Politico reported last week that federal prosecutors were questioning whether or not Gaetz tried to obstruct justice by talking to a witness in the sexual trafficking investigation, as Politico reported.
Now, at least 25 former Gaetz’s staffers have removed his name from their resumes on LinkedIn, according to The Insider.
His former chief of staff Dan McFaul says he was working for an unidentified “congressman” during the two-month stint.
The report noted that another former chief of staff for Gaetz, as well as two former legislative directors, also do not name the GOP lawmaker on LinkedIn.
Others also removed his to name from their social media bios.
A former staffer told Insider they “never referred to him directly” in job interviews without being asked for specifics. “I knew how controversial he could be,” the individual added.
“There is literally no upside to putting Gaetz on your resume,” another former staffer told Insider.
