Matt Gaetz, the former Florida congressman who once hoped to be Donald Trump’s attorney general, is now making a move into television. After his attempt to join Trump’s administration failed, Gaetz is set to become an anchor on the conservative network One America News (OANN), according to multiple reports.
The news was first reported by CNN on Monday, citing an unnamed source. This followed a cryptic post on social media by Gaetz’s wife, Ginger, who teased “Big news coming next week!”
OANN has not confirmed the details, but a page for “The Matt Gaetz Show” appeared on the network’s website, suggesting the move is official.
Gaetz, 42, is known for his strong support of Trump and his role in pushing out former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He was also named last month as Trump’s preferred choice for Attorney General. However, his political future took a hit after a scandal involving allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use resurfaced. Gaetz has denied the accusations, and no charges were filed against him.
The controversy made it difficult for him to secure enough support in the Senate, and he withdrew from consideration for the role. Trump ended up selecting Pam Bondi, the former Florida Attorney General, instead.
Gaetz remained a divisive figure within the Republican Party, particularly after playing a key role in ousting McCarthy. McCarthy, who has long clashed with Gaetz, appeared on Fox News to accuse him of using the scandal as an excuse to resign from Congress before the ethics investigation could be finished.
Gaetz’s new role at OANN is part of a broader trend of Trump allies finding new platforms in media. Other former Trump nominees, like Pete Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard, have also faced controversies from their pasts. Despite this, Gaetz is poised to continue influencing American politics, this time through the airwaves.
