Federal agents have arrested alleged Capitol rioter John Gould after a lengthy investigation led to him being accidentally outed by his co-worker— and fellow accused rioter Jonathan Laurens, The Daily Beast reported, citing an FBI affidavit.
In court documents reviewed by the outlet, the FBI said John Gould went to check on his co-worker Jonathan Laurens last June after Laurens didn’t show up to work. At the time, Laurens was being interviewed by the FBI over storming the Capitol. The FBI then allegedly found texts between Laurens and Gould that showed Gould taking a selfie in the building’s Rayburn Reception Room.”
The records point out Surveillance photos from Jan. 6 allegedly showing Gould in a green jacket and “Team Trump” cowboy hat walking through the building, including out of the Rayburn Reception Room shortly before 3 p.m. Agents later staked out Gould’s workplace, where they spotted him in the same green jacket.
“On March 10, 2022, Agents observed Laurens arrive at the office, and Laurens and GOULD proceeded together to a convenience store. Inside the convenience store, an Agent observed
GOULD and took a photo,” the affidavit said. “Then an FBI Task Force Officer (TFO) who observed GOULD at Laurens’s apartment on Jun 30, 2021, confirmed they are “the same individual” who appeared inside the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Gould was charged with illegal entry of restricted grounds and disorderly disruption of congressional proceedings, according to The Daily Beast.
