Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney said Thursday that far-right GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene should not have a security clearance after Greene defended the Air National Guardsman suspected of leaking a trove of classified documents and posted a pro-Russia tweet attacking the U.S. government for supporting Ukraine.

Cheney said Greene’s comments made clear that she “cannot be trusted” with national security information.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene makes clear yet again that she cannot be trusted with America’s national security information and should not have a security clearance of any kind,” the Wyoming Republican wrote.

Cheney’s tweet came after Greene defended the alleged leaker, Jack Teixeira, 21, in two tweets Thursday night, claiming that the Biden administration was “the real enemy” and had “lied to us from the very beginning.”

In her latest tweet, Greene explained that “the Biden Administration and DOJ want to arrest a likely low-lever National Guardsman for exposing the TRUTH?? It’s Joe Biden, his Administration, and the Department of Defense that are breaking the law. They are violating the Constitution by inserting us into an armed conflict most Americans don’t want and no American benefits from.

She added: “The National Guardsman that released these Pentagon papers is simply blowing the whistle on what is really taking place at the DOD, yet he’s being treated like a traitor and criminal. It’s the Biden Admin and the DOD who are acting like criminals. They’re the ones who should be held accountable to the American people because of what they’re doing in Ukraine.”

Greene concluded by saying, “It’s time we hold the Biden Administration accountable for breaking the law. #ImpeachJoeBiden”

Teixeira was arrested Thursday at a home in North Dighton, Massachusetts. He made his first court appearance Friday, where he was charged with possessing classified documents pertaining to national security and possessing national defense materials. The charges carry a maximum of 10 years behind bars each.
