Attorney General Pam Bondi may have thought she was firmly in the driver’s seat at the Justice Department — but according to new reporting, the knives are out, and they’re coming from inside the building.
Appearing on MSNBC, Wired reporter Jake Lahut broke down what appears to be a growing rift between Bondi and Trump’s newly appointed prosecutor, who has gone “rogue” by pressing forward with charges against Trump’s enemies — without even looping Bondi in.
“Now, I never want to speculate into a competitor’s sourcing,” Lahut said on the air, “but what it does make you wonder is whoever leaked this, were they okay with the implication that either Pam Bondi isn’t on top of this, or that Halligan might look like she’s jumping rank, and there’s really no downside to doing that internally.”
That kind of power play in Trumpworld doesn’t usually end well. Lahut didn’t stop there, sharing insights from his own reporting, including an eyebrow-raising internal ranking that paints a pretty bleak picture of Bondi’s standing.
“What I can tell you from my reporting is that Pam Bondi is very much on the ropes internally,” Lahut said. “I did this informal poll in one of my most recent stories for the newsletter, where I asked Trump officials to rank one through five who the cabinet members in the worst standing were. And one of these guys put Bondi one through four. Really just like lumped in everyone else at the end.”
It’s not just unflattering. It’s potentially fatal — politically speaking. It’s hard to imagine a clearer message: Bondi’s stock is crashing, fast.
