House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has added his name to a Texas lawsuit looking to upend the election results in several states that Donald Trump lost to President-elect Joe Biden.
The lawsuit from the Texas attorney general, Republican Ken Paxton, demands that the 62 total Electoral College votes in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin be invalidated. McCarthy is one of 126 other Republican lawmakers to sign the document.
The last-gasp bid to subvert the results of the election is the latest demonstration of Trump’s enduring political power even as his term is set to end.
Officials in the four states have sharply criticized the move and Legal experts dismiss Paxton’s filing as the latest and perhaps longest legal shot since Election Day.
