Martha-Ann Alito, wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, has been recorded expressing her desire for revenge against those who criticized her and her husband for displaying politically charged flags at their homes.

“Look at me. I’m German, from Germany,” Mrs. Alito said in the recording before adding: You come after me, I’m gonna give it back to you.”

“There will be a way, it doesn’t have to be now, but there will be a way they know,” she added. “Don’t worry about it.”

The remarks were recorded by progressive filmmaker Lauren Windsor at the Supreme Court Historical Society’s annual dinner on June 3. Windsor attended the event as a member of the society under her real name, though she posed as a conservative to elicit answers from Alito and others.

The recordings were released on Windsor’s activist site, The Undercurrent, following an earlier release of recordings involving Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Alito.

The Alitos became embroiled in controversy last month when an “Appeal to Heaven” flag and an upside-down American flag were displayed at their homes. These symbols are closely linked to far-right politics, Christian nationalism, and participants in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

Justice Alito claimed the flags were personal statements from his wife directed at a neighbor, not political symbols. However, the neighbor has publicly questioned this explanation. The incident has provoked strong condemnation from congressional Democrats, with some high-profile members calling for Alito’s recusal from Jan. 6-related cases.

In the recording, Martha-Ann Alito also revealed her plan to fly a “Sacred Heart of Jesus” flag at their homes in protest against a nearby LGBTQ Pride flag. This flag is a known symbol of the Christian right wing and is specifically used to counter Pride displays.

She mentioned that her husband has asked her to refrain from putting up flags at their properties.

“I won’t do that because I’m deferring to you,” she recounted telling her husband. “But when you are free of this nonsense, I’m putting it up and I’m gonna send them a message every day, maybe every week, I’ll be changing the flags.”

She also described her own flag design, featuring the Italian word “vergogna,” meaning shame, intended as a rebuke to those flying the Pride flag.

“Shame, shame, shame on you, you know?” she stated.

Justice Alito’s conversation with Windsor included his agreement with her assertion that the U.S. should aspire to be a Christian nation and his admission that much of the Supreme Court’s decisions are influenced by political ideology. Chief Justice Roberts, in contrast, opposed her views during their recorded discussion.

These recordings expose the extreme right-wing sentiments and retaliatory plans harbored within the Alito household, raising serious concerns about impartiality and ideological influences at the highest levels of the judiciary.
