A Georgia judge on Monday ordered Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, to testify before a special grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia next month about his knowledge of Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in the state after Trump lost to president Joe Biden.
Graham previously said he would fight the subpoena. But Fulton County Superior Judge Robert McBurney declared Graham a “necessary witness” to the investigation and ordered him to appear before the grand jury in August, local station WSBTV reported.
In the order, McBurney said the “court finds that Lindsey Graham is a necessary and material witness” in the special grand jury’s investigation into potential criminal interference in Georgia’s 2020 election.
The order says the grand jury needs to hear about Graham’s two alleged phone calls to Georgia’s secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger to pressure him to begin “reexamining certain absentee ballots cast in Georgia in order to explore the possibility of a more favorable outcome for former President Donald Trump.”
The South Carolina Senator is one of eight people jury members subpoenaed last week.
