Jon Stewart has harsh words for Donald Trump, especially after the stock market took a dive thanks to the President’s tariffs. In his Monday night monologue, the “Daily Show” host didn’t hold back, mocking Trump’s weak attempts to recover from the mess.
One of the low points for Stewart was Trump’s latest nickname attempt on Truth Social. In a post, Trump urged Americans not to “be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!).” Stewart couldn’t resist. “Panican?” he said. “The genius who gave us classics like ‘Sleepy Joe’ and ‘Crooked Hillary’ just s–t out ‘you’re a Panican’?”
Stewart then suggested a few better names for Trump: “How about Hysterocrats? Repussicans? How about Cryontologists?” He jokingly asked, “Did the overseas factory you had been sourcing your nicknames from get shut down during the tariff war?”
Stewart also slammed Trump’s response to the stock market crash. Trump had posted on Friday: “ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL.” Stewart poked fun at the absurdity of the message: “Your economic policy has the same tagline as season three of Squid Game? It’s supposed to make us feel better?”
But Stewart wasn’t done. He took aim at Trump’s behavior over the weekend. “In case you didn’t get the point that he doesn’t give a f–k, he spent the weekend showing, not telling,” Stewart said. “Trump didn’t play a round of golf, but a tournament of golf. A three-day tournament.”
Stewart also criticized Trump’s rhetoric about America being exploited by its trade partners. “We continue to blame everybody else in the world that we designed and policed after World War II,” he said. “We’re the richest country in the world ever. We’re not the world’s victims. If we have inequalities in this country, that’s on us.”
Wrapping up, Stewart showed a montage of journalists talking about the financial crisis, then delivered the knockout punch. “Financial destruction not seen since the pandemic, and this time there’s no controversy over how it all started… You, Trump, released the contagion.”
“It’s your lab leak,” Stewart said. “And it’s right out in the open.”
Stewart’s message was clear: Trump’s handling of the economy is a disaster, and it’s time for him to face the consequences.
