A dramatic video posted online shows the moment a suicidal father drove his truck off a cliff in San Diego with his 2-year-old twin daughters inside after threatening his wife that he would do so, KNSD reported.
In the short clip, posted to YouTube, the man’s pickup truck is seen with its headlights on as it shoots over the edge and falls roughly 30 feet into the water before all three were rescued about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
The video shows the large splash the vehicle made upon impact with the water. Another vehicle was close behind, though it’s unclear if it was a police car.
According to the report, officers responded to the scene and were able to save the father and his daughters.
Officer Jonathan Wiese from San Diego Police told KNSD that he rappelled down the cliffside to reach the family.
Wiese said that when he finally made it to the water, “he had both girls,” referring to the father.
“He was holding them and trying to tread water, but they were all going under. One was awake and crying, the other one was pretty lifeless.”
Wiese managed to get the group out of the water and onto a nearby rock.
The father and one of his daughters suffered minor injuries. The other daughter was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was expected to recover.
