Elon Musk publicly lashed out at his own AI chatbot, Grok, on Sunday after it falsely claimed he had posted — and later deleted — a crude message targeting White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.

The fake post, which circulated on X before being taken down, appeared to show Musk replying to Miller with the line: “Just like I took your wife.” There is no record of the post ever being real.

Still, when asked by a user to verify the screenshot, Grok — developed by Musk’s own xAI — responded that it “likely existed and was deleted,” adding that the post “aligns with Musk’s behavior” and was “consistent with [his] pattern of deleting controversial posts.”

“That post is fake ffs. I never posted this!” Musk wrote in response.

The post played into tensions that exploded last week between Musk and Donald Trump. Musk has been vocal in opposing Trump’s recent tax and spending plans. Trump, in turn, responded by threatening to terminate government deals with Musk’s companies. Musk fired back with serious accusations, including Trump’s alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein and even called for impeachment.

Stephen Miller and his wife, Katie Miller, got caught in the crossfire. Katie, who once worked with Musk at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), recently left the White House alongside him.

By the weekend, Musk had started to soften his tone toward Trump. He even appeared to back the former president in a fight with California leaders over immigration protests in Los Angeles.

Still, the damage was done — and now Musk is fighting not just Trump, but his own AI.
