Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) didn’t hold back when asked about the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. The Tennessee Republican slammed the Trump DOJ for refusing to release Epstein-related files and said the whole situation “disgusts” him.
Speaking with CNN’s Manu Raju on Tuesday, Burchett was asked if a special counsel should be appointed to look deeper into Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking network.
“I don’t know. I’m not an attorney,” Burchett said. “I just find them guilty and hang them publicly. I mean, that’s not over the top either. I’m ready. I’m over it. It disgusts me.”
Burchett made it clear he believes the government is hiding something. “I’m big on clarity and transparency, and that’s a good reason people don’t trust government, either party,” he added.
Raju followed up, asking directly if Burchett believed the DOJ’s statements about the case.
“No, I don’t,” Burchett said flatly. “I don’t trust them.”
His comments highlight growing frustration among lawmakers and the public over unanswered questions in the Epstein investigation—and growing distrust in how federal agencies have handled the case.
