Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) is facing harsh criticism for his remarks on Monday evening, where he disparaged the strength of the U.S. military.
In an interview with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling, Tuberville claimed, “We’ve got the weakest military that we’ve had in your or my lifetime,” attributing it to his dissatisfaction with diversity initiatives and labeling them as “wokeness.”
Critics were swift to refute Tuberville’s assertion, highlighting that any perceived weakness in the U.S. military is not a result of “wokeness” but rather attributed to Tuberville himself. The senator has unilaterally obstructed numerous routine nominations and promotions, protesting a Pentagon policy regarding travel expenses related to abortion.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has strongly criticized Tuberville, condemning his actions as “brazen and reckless.” A growing number of Republican lawmakers have also voiced their disapproval. In a recent dramatic showdown on the Senate floor, several GOP senators confronted Tuberville over his holds on nominations.
Tuberville’s obstruction has led to crucial military roles remaining unfilled, causing uncertainty for service members and their families. Given this track record, Tuberville’s recent comments about a weakened U.S. military have triggered immediate backlash.

Tuberville is an idiot, wrong, and obviously doesn’t understand the absolute lethality of the US military. Come on Alabama do better https://t.co/2Bi8FNpgVE

Tuberville really ought to be wearing a hot dog outfit when he’s talking about the military being weak.

I agree with you @TTuberville @SenTuberville . The US military is weakened. But not by “wokeness,” it is weakened by your attacks, obstruction of military promotions, & your serving our enemy’s interests.
…despite you the US military remains the most powerful force in the world! https://t.co/0p0DwG7x3G

If Tubby is so worried about our strength, why's he weakening us? Somebody needs to explain to me why his christian values should impede our military? like one silly, old guy can do this???

Tuberville is weakening the military and then complaining that it’s weak. The Republican Party has made itself an enemy of our national security. What a disgrace. https://t.co/97VFf8FFZS

And it’s literally because of you, @TTuberville. Resign. https://t.co/XGVCtB4vSb

Tommy Tuberville is the ONLY person who is holding up 300+ military appointments, while simultaneously talking negatively about our military.
You can’t even make this shit up anymore. https://t.co/hDTSoOpivp

I hate this monumentally stupid man with the heat of a thousand suns. He has never served a day. He hates our service but uses it to enrich himself and his fake veterans foundation. https://t.co/kGcmHRvQAp
