People online are mocking President Donald Trump after he praised his son Barron for being good with technology, just for knowing how to use a computer.
Trump shared his thoughts about his youngest son during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday, just one day before Barron’s 19th birthday. He spoke about Barron’s ability to use tech and manage gadgets.
“He can look at a computer… I turn off his laptop, I said, ‘Oh good,’ and I go back about five minutes later, he’s got his laptop, I say, ‘How do you do that?’ He’s got an unbelievable aptitude in technology,” Trump said during the interview.
“Barron’s a very smart guy,” he added.
This comment quickly got attention on social media, with many mocking Trump for being impressed by something that seemed very basic.
“A dude who can’t even turn on a laptop, is running the country. Let that one sink in. Boomers need to stop running the country. lol,” wrote one user.
“*Turns on computer* Trump: My god Barran you’re a Genius!,” one user quipped.
“US is in trouble. Wat a gui!!!!!” another user commented.
“Dumbest mfr alive,” said someone else.
“Just think. This guy has the Nuclear Codes,” another user replied.
“Pressed the ‘On’ button. Groundbreaking stuff there,” joked a fourth person.
Trump has mentioned Barron’s skills before, especially when it comes to helping with his 2024 election campaign. Trump said that Barron suggested he appear on podcasts and talk to popular influencers like Joe Rogan, Adin Ross, and Theo Von.
Barron is currently a freshman at NYU’s Stern School of Business.
In the interview, Trump also praised his other children—Eric, Donald Jr., Tiffany, and Ivanka—calling them “very smart” and “always good students.” He added, “I’m lucky. Look, you have to be a little bit lucky, too.”
