Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Monday slammed Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), calling his reasoning for opposing President Biden’s Build Back Better Act “a farce” during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
Manchin on Sunday announce his opposition to the popular bill, arguing that he could not explain supporting the bill to his constituents in West Virginia, a Republican-leaning state.
Ocasio-Cortez, who represents one of the nation’s most densely populated areas in New York City, called that rationale “a farce.”
“The idea that Joe Manchin says he can’t explain this back home to his people is a farce,” she told host Joe Scarborough.
“It’s a farce in terms of plain democracy,” she said. “Because, you know, I represent just as many or more people than Joe Manchin does.”
