A Virginia man tragically died after a bear he was hunting fell on him during a trip on December 9, officials said.
Lester Clayton Harvey Jr., 58, was part of a group of hunters tracking the bear in the woods when the incident occurred.
According to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the bear climbed a tree to escape the hunters. As the group began to move away from the tree, one of the hunters shot at the bear. The animal then fell from the tree, landing on Harvey, who was standing about 10 feet below.
Other hunters in the group quickly rushed to Harvey’s aid, providing first aid before getting him to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Harvey passed away from his injuries on Friday.
Harvey, who lived in Virginia, is survived by his wife, five children, and eight grandchildren.
