Hunter Biden isn’t backing down after Melania Trump’s legal team threatened to sue him for $1 billion over comments linking her to Jeffrey Epstein.
In a blunt response, Biden flat-out refused to apologize. “F*ck that, that’s not going to happen,” he said in an interview released Thursday on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan.
At the center of the firestorm is a claim Biden made in a previous interview:
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep,” he said, citing journalist Michael Wolff as his source.
Melania Trump’s lawyers called the statement “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory” in a cease-and-desist letter dated August 6. They gave Biden until August 7 to apologize or face a $1 billion defamation suit.
But Biden hasn’t blinked.
In the new interview, he defended his comments.
“What I said is what I have heard and seen reported and written, primarily from Wolff,” adding that claims about Epstein introducing Melania to Trump date back years and have been mentioned by outlets like The New York Times and Vanity Fair.
Biden continued: “I don’t think that these threats of a lawsuit add up to anything other than a design destruction because it’s not about who introduced whom to who. I don’t know how that in any way rises to the level of defamation to begin with.”
Melania Trump’s aide, Nick Clemmens, told reporters: “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, Melania.”
The official story from the Trumps is that they met through modeling agent Paolo Zampolli at a party during New York Fashion Week in 1998—not through Epstein.
Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, accused Biden of spreading damaging lies.
“These false, disparaging, defamatory, and inflammatory statements are extremely salacious… disseminated to tens of millions of people worldwide.”
“Failure to comply will leave Mrs. Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer,” He warned.
Instead of responding privately, Biden leaked the legal letter to a journalist. Melania’s team sees that move as a sign of guilt—or at least fear.
If Melania Trump follows through, the lawsuit could turn into a high-stakes legal showdown—one that could give Biden the right to subpoena the Epstein files.
