House Republicans have issued subpoenas to former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and a long list of other powerful ex-officials as part of their investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and the government’s handling of his case.
The move was led by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), who also sent a subpoena to the Department of Justice, demanding full access to the “unredacted Epstein Files.” These files could reveal details about how Epstein — a convicted sex offender with connections to some of the most powerful people in the world — managed to avoid serious punishment for years.
“While the Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight,” Comer wrote in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi. He added that the committee’s findings could help “improve federal efforts to combat sex trafficking” and lead to reforms around non-prosecution deals in sex-crime cases.
The subpoenas target 10 former high-ranking government officials, including:
Bill Clinton
Hillary Clinton
James Comey (former FBI Director)
Loretta Lynch (former Attorney General)
Eric Holder (former Attorney General)
Merrick Garland (former Attorney General)
Robert Mueller (former FBI Director and special counsel)
William Barr (former Attorney General)
Jeff Sessions (former Attorney General)
Alberto Gonzales (former Attorney General)
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate who was convicted of sex trafficking, was also subpoenaed, but her deposition is on hold until the Supreme Court rules on her appeal.
The subpoenas came after a rare bipartisan vote in a subcommittee, where Democrats and Republicans agreed to demand answers from the DOJ. A Republican-led push to question the 10 former officials passed without objection.
This marks a major escalation in Congress’s probe into Epstein’s network — and into whether the U.S. government failed to hold the right people accountable.
