Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton reacted sharply on Monday to a report revealing how top Trump administration officials discussed military plans in a leaked group chat.
“You have got to be kidding me,” Clinton posted on X, alongside an eye-roll emoji and a link to The Atlantic article.
The leak exposed a Signal group chat where high-ranking officials debated an attack on Houthi rebels in Yemen. This revelation came just as Clinton’s own email scandal from 2016 was brought back into the spotlight.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, shared that he was added to the chat on March 11 by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. A couple of days later, he found himself in the “Houthi PC small group,” where officials discussed details of the upcoming operation. The officials seemed unaware that Goldberg was part of the conversation.
Trump denied knowledge of the leak after Brian Hughes, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, confirmed the authenticity of the messages.
The leaked messages revealed that the attack on the Houthis, which took place on March 15, was planned in advance. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared details on weapons, targets, and timing two hours before the attack began. Other key officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, were also involved in the chat.
Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, responded to the controversy, stating, “The attacks on the Houthis have been highly successful and effective. President Trump continues to have the utmost confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.”
