After President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis was made public, former President Barack Obama shared a touching message of support.
“Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family,” Obama wrote in a post on X.
He praised Biden for his long-standing efforts in the fight against cancer, and said he believes Biden will take on this new challenge the same way he always has — with strength and calm.
“Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace,” Obama said. “We pray for a fast and full recovery.”
The news of Biden’s diagnosis came from his personal office. According to the statement, doctors found a prostate nodule after Biden had experienced more urinary symptoms. Tests confirmed prostate cancer that has spread to the bone. The cancer is described as “aggressive,” with a high Gleason score of 9, but doctors said it appears to be hormone-sensitive, which means it can still be managed effectively.
Biden and his family are now working with doctors to choose the best treatment path.
Biden has been deeply involved in cancer research efforts for years. He led the Cancer Moonshot initiative during the Obama administration, which focused on speeding up cancer research and improving access to care. As president, Biden brought the initiative back, continuing his push to fight the disease that has affected so many families — including his own.
