In a daring move last week, “My Pillow” CEO Mike Lindell announced that he would withhold millions in payment from his legal team, risking financial fallout for the sake of his business empire. The flamboyant pillow magnate opted to forge ahead without legal counsel, leaving his attorneys in a financial lurch. Lindell’s decision came with the swift withdrawal of his longtime legal firm, Parker Daniels Kibort, from defamation suits filed by Dominion Voting Systems, Smartmatic, and former Dominion employee Eric Coomer, whom Lindell accused of election manipulation.
Interestingly, the legal team did not step back from a separate legal battle seeking to overturn a binding arbitration order in the “Prove Mike Wrong” contest. This contest, involving a $5 million reward for disproving Lindell’s alleged evidence of fraud in the 2020 election, is now facing a move to nullify the order, citing alleged errors by arbitrators.
Undeterred by the absence of legal representation, Lindell boldly asserted his intention to represent himself in court. During a broadcast on Frank Speech, flagged by Meidas Trouch’s Ron Filipkowski, Lindell claimed to have received support from numerous lawyers sympathetic to his cause. The question of whether these attorneys can measure up to the legal prowess of their adversaries remains uncertain.
Lindell, known for building a pillow empire on overpriced polyfoam, was confident in his ability to navigate the legal landscape as he stated, “As far as myself, if I have to go in there by myself and go before those twelve jurors and say, ‘Um, hello jurors! No, I did not — this was not a big marketing plan to make money.’”
He then chuckled at the irony of his situation.
“You’d think if this was a plan to make money, maybe a guy would stop after a month or two, huh?” he mused, addressing the defamation allegations in federal courts across DC, Colorado, and Minnesota.
Nevertheless, Lindell remained steadfast, envisioning a day of reckoning for those he believed engaged in unjust “lawfare.”
As the Pillow Man charts a course for self-representation, we are compelled to contemplate whether his gamble is going to be a win or a tumble into financial chaos. Only time will tell as the pillow saga continues to unfold.
