MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough didn’t hold back Thursday morning, slamming U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for what he called a blatant attempt to hide behind religion—using the Bible as a shield during tough questioning from lawmakers.

“Did you see he threw Jesus under the bus?” Scarborough asked right at the top of the show, referencing Hegseth’s response during a tense grilling from lawmakers. Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, was stunned by Hegseth’s defense.

Hegseth had declared, “I don’t believe anything except the Bible,” when pressed with tough questions. Scarborough wasn’t buying it.

“It’s like—you get put in the corner and Jesus is your get-out-of-jail-free card?” he said, clearly fed up.

“Yeah, okay. Well, great,” he added, frustrated. “Yeah, we all do. But that—really? That’s the only thing?”

As his co-hosts tried to move on, Scarborough dug deeper.

“Not the Magna Carta? Not the Constitution?”

The moment was raw and unfiltered. Scarborough was calling out what he saw as a calculated move by Hegseth to dodge real accountability by hiding behind faith.
