House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) came to President Donald Trump’s defense after a widely reported “private” dinner with investors who put $148 million into Trump’s crypto business
During a Sunday interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Johnson dismissed concerns about the event, saying, “Well, look, I don’t know anything about the dinner. And so I’m not going to comment on something I haven’t even heard about. I’m not sure who was there or what the purpose was.”
Tapper pointed out the double standard. “I really have a difficult time imagining that if this was a Democratic president doing the exact same thing, you wouldn’t be outraged,” he said.
Johnson deflected and shifted to praising Trump instead, calling him “one of the greatest deal makers of all time.”
But Tapper kept the pressure on. “You oversaw, as Speaker, a congressional investigation into President Biden’s ties to his son, Hunter’s, questionable business dealings to enrich him,” he pointed out. “You seemed to think it was your responsibility to look into this sort of thing then.”
Johnson didn’t back down. Instead, he made it clear he sees a key difference: hiding.
“The Biden crime family, as they were named, earned that title. Why? Because they used shell companies,” Johnson said. “The difference, of course, is that President Trump does everything out in the open. He’s not trying to hide anything.”
So there it is: according to one of the most powerful Republicans in the country, Trump’s corrupt dealings are not the problem—because everyone can see it. Watch the video below from CNN:
