Vice President Kamala Harris is showing a 6-point lead over former President Donald Trump in New Hampshire, according to two new surveys.
A poll released Thursday by the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center reveals Harris leading Trump 49% to 43% in the Granite State. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garners 4% support, while 3% of voters remain undecided.
In a head-to-head matchup, Harris’s lead grows slightly. The poll shows 53% of voters would back Harris, compared to 46% for Trump.
The surveys come on the heels of President Joe Biden’s decision to step out of the 2024 race, leading to Harris’s rapid ascent. Since Biden’s exit, Harris has seen a surge in support and fundraising, leveraging a dynamic, meme-driven campaign. Though not yet the official Democratic nominee, she appears to be on a clear path to securing the spot.
The University of New Hampshire poll, conducted from July 23-25 with a margin of error of ±1.8%, also notes an increase in Harris’s favorability among New Hampshire voters—from 24% in May to 39% in July. Her favorability rating now surpasses that of Biden, Trump, and Trump’s new running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio).
Similarly, a separate poll from Saint Anselm College’s Survey Center at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, conducted from July 24-25 with a margin of error of ±2.1%, shows Harris leading Trump 50% to 44% among registered voters. Harris’s favorability rating in this survey stands at 49%, compared to 39% for Biden and 43% for Trump.
Neil Levesque, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, noted, “Harris has achieved a level of enthusiasm that Biden did not, particularly among the liberal base. As she takes the lead in the campaign, shifts in voter perceptions are expected to continue.”
