During Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, hosts Josh Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski slammed Republican senators who are demanding the resignation of attorney general Merrick Garland for trying to prevent violence threats against school board officials and teachers.

During a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Garland was peppered with a barrage of outlandish accusations from Senate Republicans who made overheated complaints about a memo recommending prosecution for those who threaten school officials, claiming the memo puts a target on conservative parents.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went on to defend a parent who made a Nazi salute toward school officials to protest mask mandates, and Joe Scarborough had a few thins to say about it.

“I’m not sure if that’s the example I would have used were I am one of two people who worked to overthrow a democratically elected election on Jan. 6,” Scarborough began. “Josh Hawley, of all people, [saying], ‘I call on you to resign,’ well, the two major newspapers called on Josh Hawley to resign after he, of course, was at the middle of the insurrection on Jan. 6, so it’s very rich. It’s also very rich that these people, these populists, let’s see here, we had the populists from Harvard Law school first and then we had the populist from Yale and Stanford law school, and we have the populist from Princeton and, I believe, Harvard Law School.”

“They are defending people who made death threats against school board members,” he added. “They are defending people who harassed school board members. They defend people that circled the cars of school board members, who say, we know where you live. Why should we be surprised that now they’re supporting those who are making threats against school board members and are enraged that America’s law enforcement agency actually wants to protect school board members from threats of deaths and threats of violence and constant intimidation?”
