Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska delivered a scathing condemnation of President Donald Trump after a shocking meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week. The meeting, broadcasted live in the U.S., revealed a dramatic shift in U.S. foreign policy that left Murkowski appalled.
Murkowski blasted the administration for refusing to acknowledge Russia’s role in starting the war in Ukraine, and warned that the U.S. may be abandoning its support for Ukraine altogether.
“This week started with administration officials refusing to acknowledge that Russia started the war in Ukraine. It ends with a tense, shocking conversation in the Oval Office and whispers from the White House that they may try to end all U.S. support for Ukraine,” she wrote on X, the social media platform.
She added: “I know foreign policy is not for the faint of heart, but right now, I am sick to my stomach as the administration appears to be walking away from our allies and embracing Putin, a threat to democracy and U.S. values around the world.”
Her words struck hard, especially from a Republican, and echoed the growing concern among international leaders. Many saw this as a dangerous departure from American values—especially the long-standing commitment to defend democracy worldwide.
During the Oval Office meeting, Trump and Vice President Vance lashed out at Zelensky, accusing him of ingratitude for the U.S. security aid, despite Zelensky’s public appreciation just weeks earlier. In early February, Zelensky posted on X, thanking the administration for its ongoing support of peace efforts in Eastern Europe.
In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly sidelined Zelensky from peace talks, claiming the Ukrainian president “has no cards” and offering no meaningful solutions to end the war. After the Oval Office meeting, Trump’s administration went even further, suggesting that Ukraine should find a new leader to help curb the violence—an unprecedented slap in the face to the democratically elected president of a U.S. ally.
The U.S. also took a shocking step by voting against a United Nations resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This move sent a chilling message, signaling a growing divide between America and its traditional allies while strengthening ties with Russia, Belarus, and North Korea—countries that also voted against the resolution.
Murkowski’s outrage isn’t just a political statement—it’s a wake-up call. America’s leadership on the world stage is being undermined, and the consequences of embracing Putin’s Russia while turning our back on Ukraine are more dangerous than ever.
