Trumpworld has erupted into pandemonium as House Republicans unleash a torrent of demands for President Biden’s immediate resignation following his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Biden’s unexpected announcement has triggered a frantic response from GOP leaders who claim the President is now unfit to continue leading the nation.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) took to social media platform X to declare, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately,” punctuating his statement with an urgent call for Biden’s swift departure.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (Minn.) echoed Johnson’s sentiments, asserting that Biden’s withdrawal from the race has rendered him incapable of responsibly holding the office.
“If the Democrat party has deemed Joe Biden unfit to run for re-election, he’s certainly unfit to control our nuclear codes. Biden must step down from office immediately,” Emmer wrote on X.
Representative Elise Stefanik (N.Y.), chair of the House GOP conference, amplified the hysteria, arguing vehemently that Biden’s decision has plunged the nation into a leadership crisis. “If Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is unable and unfit to serve as President of the United States,” Stefanik declared in a statement dripping with incredulity. “He must immediately resign.”
The uproar follows Biden’s announcement that he was stepping aside from the Democratic presidential ticket in a letter to the country Sunday afternoon. He endorsed Vice President Harris for the presidency, citing party and national interests.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.
With GOP-fueled pressure mounting for Biden to step aside sooner rather than later, Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) has introduced a resolution urging Vice President Harris to convene the Cabinet and declare Biden unable to fulfill his presidential duties under the 25th Amendment. Harris, however, would be unlikely to do so, further stoking Republican mayhem.
Republican senators have also joined the chorus of condemnation, with Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, expressing grave doubts about Biden’s capacity to govern. “Being President is the hardest job in the world,” Daines remarked, “and I no longer have confidence that Joe Biden can effectively execute his duties as Commander-in-Chief.”
