The internet erupted Thursday night after The Wall Street Journal published a disturbing report about Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein — and what Trump allegedly sent the late sex offender for his 50th birthday.
According to the WSJ, Trump sent Epstein a letter in 2003 featuring a crude drawing of a naked woman. Trump’s signature, the Journal claimed, was drawn as the woman’s pubic hair. The note read: “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey […] Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
The reaction online was immediate and disgusted.
“Good lord, ick,” posted Democratic strategist Max Burns.
“Oh my this is gonna be catnip for internet conspiracy theorists. Actually… not just them,” said MSNBC’s Brandy Zadrozny.
“This is a soon-to-be ex-president,” added commentator Keith Olbermann.
“Condolences to everyone in Washington DC with a birthday between now and Labor Day who will now be wished ‘Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret’ by a dozen different people,” joked Politico’s Ben Jacobs.
But not everyone believed the story.
Megyn Kelly dismissed the article as “the dumbest attempted hit piece I’ve ever read.”
“The letter sounds bogus,” replied Elon Musk, who himself has accused Trump of being named in the Epstein files.
Trump adviser Alex Brusewitz called it “very clearly BS being peddled by the fake news hacks at the WSJ,” adding, “You know it’s BS because they won’t publish the ‘letter.’”
Trump flatly denied the report and said he’s preparing legal action against the Journal.
“This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story,” Trump said. “I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women.”
