On Monday, New York Attorney General Letitia James published a letter that accounting firm Mazars LLP sent to the Trump Organization informing them that it was severing ties with their company and warning that the financial statements Donald Trump used to secure lucrative loans and burnish his image as a wealthy businessman, “should no longer be relied upon.”
The news quickly caught fire across all media with many legal experts opining about what would come next.
But conservative attorney George Conway took to Twitter to point out an overlooked detail in the newly revealed letter that suggests the longtime Trump Organization accounting firm has given the New York State Office of the Attorney General substantial amount of evidence.
Conway noted the number that appears at the bottom of the Mazars letter’s first page —known as the Bates number— is 00525838.
When another Twitter user asked Conway what this signifies, he replied that “it suggests that the accountants have produced at least 525,838 pages of material to prosecutors.”
