Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) faced unexpected scrutiny from Fox News on Sunday as he attempted to spin a recent assassination plot against Donald Trump into a left-wing conspiracy.
Over the weekend, an individual armed with an AK-47 was found hiding behind a bush on Trump’s golf course, allegedly planning to kill the former president. Trump emerged unharmed, but the incident sparked a statement from the wife of a key impeachment witness, which only fueled Burchett’s inflammatory rhetoric.
On Fox News, Burchett seized the opportunity to promote unfounded conspiracy theories, accusing the left of inciting violence against Trump. “The left has just ramped up their vitriol,” Burchett declared to Fox News host Eric Shawn, citing dubious liberal tweets mocking the assassination attempt.
“They know exactly what they’re doing,” Burchett continued, claiming he was “leaning towards conspiracy” regarding the suspect’s intentions.
Shawn swiftly countered sharply, suggesting, “It may not be a conspiracy. It could be a lone wolf situation involving someone who is simply disturbed.” Despite Shawn’s pushback, Burchett persisted, even extending his blame to diversity programs within the Secret Service. Shawn further challenged this assertion, highlighting the unfounded nature of Burchett’s claims.
