In a sharp rebuke, Florida Republican Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez declared that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) should have her “head examined” following her bizarre assertion that humans can manipulate hurricanes.

“Humans cannot create or control hurricanes,” Gimenez posted on the social platform X, as Hurricane Milton approached Florida’s west coast. “Anyone who thinks they can needs to have their head examined.”

This scathing comment comes in response to Greene’s outrageous claim made on X (formerly Twitter), where she insisted that “yes, they can control the weather,” dismissing the scientific consensus with reckless disregard.

“It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done,” she added, fueling the fire of misinformation at a critical time.

Greene has a history of pushing absurd theories about the weather. In April, she infamously connected an eclipse and an earthquake to divine messages, urging people to repent. Now, as Hurricane Milton threatens to unleash devastating impacts, her continued delusions are not just nonsensical—they are dangerous.

The Southeast is still reeling from Hurricane Helene, which left a trail of destruction and chaos. The spread of misinformation in the wake of that storm has already hampered recovery efforts, and leaders are sounding the alarm about the complications it poses.

This isn’t just an isolated incident. Numerous Republicans, including former President Trump, have pushed unfounded narratives that the government is withholding aid from GOP hurricane victims in favor of migrants. These claims have been thoroughly debunked.

In an effort to combat the flood of falsehoods, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has launched a “Hurricane Rumor Response” page, addressing and dispelling widespread myths regarding their response to both Helene and Milton. Meanwhile, the White House has created a Reddit page to provide official updates on the ongoing recovery efforts for Hurricane Milton.

As Florida braces for impact, the last thing residents need is the kind of reckless rhetoric that could hinder effective response and recovery.
