A Port St. Lucie man pulled a gun over what witnesses described as a heated debate about chickens and their egg-laying abilities.
Peter Riera, 44, reportedly fired four shots from a .45-caliber Glock at three people outside Harper’s Pub early Tuesday morning, according to Master Sergeant Dominick Mesiti of the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
“The shooter evidently raises chickens, and the conversation was about how many eggs chickens can lay. The conversation got heated for whatever reason,” Mesiti told local station WPBF-25.
Police say one victim ran into the street trying to escape, while the other two hid nearby. “We had several phone calls; the shooter himself called 911,” Mesiti added.
Authorities said everyone involved had been drinking, and fortunately, no one was hit by the gunfire. Two of the victims were later arrested for resisting officers.
“Arming yourself with a handgun when you’re under the influence is not a good idea. There’s never going to be a good outcome with that,” Mesiti warned.
The bizarre incident has left locals shaking their heads, wondering how a discussion about backyard poultry could turn so dangerous. Watch the report below:
