Florida journalist Luana Munoz, delivered an emotional report on “every reporter’s absolutely worst nightmare” after a fellow TV news reporter was shot to death while covering a shooting on Wednesday.
Munoz, a reporter at WESH-TV, shed tears as she acknowledged the difficult nature of the story in the hours after two Spectrum News 13 reporters –– Dylan Lyons and Jesse Walden –– were shot while covering a homicide in Pine Hills.
Standing outside Orlando Regional Medical Center, Munoz reflected on the emotional scene, recalling the horrific incident.
“This is every reporter’s absolutely worst nightmare. We go home at night, afraid, that something like this will occur. And that is what happened here.”
Lyons and a 9-year-old girl, who was shot with her mother at a nearby home, were killed. The mother and Walden were wounded, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s office.
Spectrum News’ parent company, Charter Communications, said it was “deeply saddened” by Lyons’ death.
“Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends and co-workers during this very difficult time,” the company said in a statement. “We remain hopeful that our other colleague who was injured makes a full recovery. This is a terrible tragedy for the Orlando community.”
