FBI’s Search At Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Was Related To Classified Documents He Reportedly Took With Him

The FBI on Monday executed a search warrant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents, including classified documents, that the former president may have been brought to Florida, CNN reported, citing three people familiar with the raid said.

A federal grand jury began an investigation into Trump’s handling of classified materials after the National Archives, charged with collecting and sorting presidential material, revealed that at least 15 boxes of White House records were recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort — including some that were classified.

Following the revelation, former FBI agent Frank Figliuzzi suggested that “personal benefit” could have motivated Trump to take those boxes home with him.

“As Justice Department investigators examine the documents, they’ll be able to see whether the contents held some value to Trump or those around him and possibly determine whether Trump could benefit from whatever’s in those documents,” Figliuzzi said at the time. “We mustn’t forget that during Trump’s term, his family members parlayed their relationship with him into personal profit and that while he was president, Trump’s own businesses reportedly raked in $2.4 billion.”

CNN also reported that “in April and May, aides to Trump at Mar-a-Lago were interviewed by the FBI as part of the probe into the handling of presidential records, according to a source familiar with the matter.”
