President Donald Trump has fired Dr. Erika McEntarfer, the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), after a disappointing jobs report showed a sharp slowdown in hiring.

The report, released Friday, revealed that the U.S. added 258,000 fewer jobs in May and June than previously reported. Trump wasn’t having it.

“No one can be that wrong?” he wrote on Truth Social. “We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY.”

Trump accused McEntarfer, who was appointed by President Biden, of manipulating job data during the 2024 election to help Vice President Kamala Harris.

“She faked the Jobs Numbers,” Trump claimed, adding that the BLS under her leadership “boosted job numbers” in Biden’s favor before the election.

McEntarfer, who became the 16th BLS commissioner in 2024, oversaw key economic reports that influence markets, policy, and elections. Trump says she failed in that role.

“She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified,” he posted. “Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes.”

The firing comes as Trump pushes to show stronger economic performance during his return to office. This move signals he’s ready to clean house—and fast.
