Rep. Doug LaMalfa of California walked into a packed town hall Monday hoping to defend Donald Trump’s agenda. He left under a storm of boos, insults, and pure rage.

Held in Chico’s Elks Lodge, the event quickly turned hostile as over 650 frustrated voters let loose on the longtime Republican lawmaker, who hadn’t faced his constituents in person for nearly eight years.

“You’re a liar!”
“Bullst man!”
“F* you!”

The shouting didn’t let up. LaMalfa tried to push Trump’s budget, defend deep cuts to healthcare programs, and back tariffs that have slammed local farmers. Voters weren’t having it.

When LaMalfa claimed there were no cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, a veteran in the crowd fired back: “Bulls–t man.” The man said his PTSD care through the VA was working “just fine” before Trump. He walked out mid-answer, saying, “I don’t appreciate that man.”

Another voter yelled, “Liar!” when LaMalfa insisted Trump’s Medicaid cuts were aimed at undocumented immigrants.

The Congressional Budget Office says the bill in question cuts over $1.1 trillion from Medicaid, Medicare, and ACA programs—enough to knock about 10 million people off their health plans.

That didn’t sit well with the crowd.

“You all left,” one woman snapped, accusing Republicans of dodging responsibility for not releasing the Epstein files. “The speaker of the House released you guys so you didn’t have to deal with releasing the files.”

LaMalfa also caught heat for defending Trump’s tariffs. A farmer from Chico laid into him:

“If you’re not here to either offer your resignation, why aren’t you here to apologize to the farmers of the North State because of your support for the Trump tariffs?”

He had no answer.

Trump’s trade policies have hit rural economies hard, especially in places like Northern California where rising prices for tractors and fertilizer are crushing farm margins.

LaMalfa, who chairs a House agriculture subcommittee, couldn’t calm the outrage. And it wasn’t just about economics. Constituents tore into him for standing by Trump after the Jan. 6 attack and for supporting secret arrests by federal immigration agents.

“We are not headed towards authoritarian fascist government. We are already there,” one person said to loud applause.

Another man, speaking calmly, asked LaMalfa if he feared Trump’s violent supporters. “If you need help pulling away from everything that’s going on, please, we want to help you,” he said. “I’m serious.”

But others weren’t so polite.

When a moderator tried to keep things moving—“We have a question on this side?”—a man in the crowd shouted back without hesitation:

“F*** you!”

It was a town hall meant to reassure voters. It became a warning shot.
